Heuser Family Cemetery

This cemetery is located 0.2 miles to the east of the intersection of 56th and L roads, on the south side of the road, then 0.3 mile up the dirt driveway leading to the farm house.  The cemetery itself is located 100 meters directly behind the abandoned farm house. Please gain permission from the property owner prior to visiting this cemetery.

"Heuser Cemetery is located northwest of Paul Nebraska and southwest of Nebraska City.  It is surrounded by farm ground owned by the Wurtele family.  Dale and Bonnie Wurtele who operate Ron's Bar and Grill in Nebraska City are the people to contact for permission to visit the cemetery.  Their son Dale Wurtele farms the ground and a son   Louis cuts the weeds in this cemetery a couple times a year.

The cemetery is square in shape and is enclosed with an iron fence.  Formerly there was an arch with a name over the gate but it has since fallen from its supports.  Just outside and adjacent to the southeast corner of the cemetery is a very small fenced and gated area  which is the burial spot for one person.   The two burial areas collectively contain the graves seven people.  A very large gray stone is inscribed with the Heuser name.  To the west of this large stone are two headstones.  One is that of Margaretha Heuser 04-10-1839----01-20-1926.  The other is that of Daniel Heuser 05-16-1828----07-26-1906.

To the north of the large gray Heuser stone are two tall white pillar stones.  There are two graves for each of these two pillar stones.   These four graves are the resting place for four of Margaretha and Daniel Heuser's children.  Charley son of Daniel and M. Heuser died 11-06-1878, aged 1 year 1 month and 7 days and Lizzie daughter of Daniel and M. Heuser died 10-11-1878, aged 6 years 7 months and 25 days.  These two children share one of the white pillar stones.   The other white pillar stone is for the graves of John son of D. and M. Heuser died 05-22-1863, aged 3 years and 19 days and Margaretha daughter of D. and M. Heuser died 02-09-1861, aged 1 year and 3 months.

Inside of the aforementioned fenced area adjacent to the Heuser Cemetery is a stone inscribed with Ludwig Mueller born February 7, 1852 died January 21, 1879.  Part of the inscription is in the German language." (1)
